PLEASE NOTE: Once the judge registration has been completed, you will receive a confirmation email. If you don’t see a confirmation email, please check your spam folder for email from OEDK@wildapricot.org.



3:30pm - Judge and VIP Reception

4:00pm  - Students begin to stand near their projects and get ready for judging. 

4:30pm  - Competition – Judging starts

6:00pm  - Judging concludes - Scorecards turned in

6:15pm - People's Choice Award voting closes 

6:30pm  - Awards Ceremony

7:00pm  - Showcase closes, teams pack up and take posters down. Disassemble the poster display frame and bring them to the designated area at the registration desk. Teams that have prearranged moving help - pack up boxes and put them in designated area.


  • Teams Check-in from 12:30 - 3:30pm.
  • Teams begin to stand near their poster close to 4:00pm and prepare their prototype (if applicable) for judging.
  • Judging will start promptly at 4:30 pm.  No score entries will be accepted prior to 4:30pm.
  • Judges will judge on two criteria, Technical Merit and Presentation Clarity, scoring between a 1 (poor) and 10 (excellent).  The technical merit score counts twice. More information will be shared at a later time. 

  • Each team will be judged between 5-6 times, depending on the number of judges. Each judge will score between 3-4 teams.

  • Judges will enter scores via a their own digital device such as a smartphone or tablet. Specific instructions on how to access the scorecard will be sent to the judges email address. 


  • The Ion is located in Downtown Houston at 4201 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77002. See map below.
    • Enter 4111 Fannin Street into your GPS for directions directly to the Ion District Parking Garage. See map below.
      • To enter, pull a ticket at any of the three entries (located on San Jacinto St., Fannin St., and Cleburne St.) Ion District Parking Garage is located a block away from the Ion.

      • The first two hours of your visit are free of charge; anything beyond two hours will incur a charge.

      • Before you leave, stop by the OEDK's registration table inside the Ion main entrance and ask OEDK staff for a parking validation sticker. This parking validation sticker is only for use in the Ion District Parking Garage.

      • LIGHT RAIL: Rice University is located adjacent to METRO Red Line light rail corridor. This system connects Rice with downtown Houston, midtown, the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center, and the Reliant Park complex. Additionally, numerous bus lines stops are within walking distance of the Rice campus, including the 26/27, 73, 8, and 34 among others.
      • From Rice, use the METRO Red Line light rail northbound to the Wheeler Transit Center stop. This is the closest light rail station to The Ion.
