The Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen in the George R. Brown School of Engineering provides a space and programs to enable undergraduate students to design, prototype and deploy solutions to real-world engineering challenges. To create the full circle of real world experience that has societal impact, interdisciplinary teams tackle problems proposed by industry, the community, partners in the Texas Medical Center and abroad. The OEDK is more than a place where design happens — it is also a hub of activity and a social center that emphasizes creativity and experimentation. The next generation of engineers will face incredible challenges that will require them to have more than a deep understanding of engineering fundamentals — they also must have the ability to work in and lead diverse teams during all phases of the design and technology development process and to effectively communicate ideas. The OEDK offers different programs which give the students opportunities to get a deeper and even more well-rounded design experience. By supporting OEDK, you invest in our student leaders experiential learning through design projects, summer design experiences, leadership roles workshops, design challenges and outreach opportunities. In fact, most gifts to Rice Engineering are less than $1,000 but together they add up to millions for student awards, academics, research and programs so we can educate leaders and tackle grand challenges. Encourage them to participate in our many events and competitions. MentorSupport the design activity in the OEDK by offering up your expertise to mentor an engineering design team. We encourage our engineering students to from design teams to tackle real-world challenges. To help them succeed, teams will be advised by engineering mentors from industry and by faculty and will work on topics that are focused on core areas, such as energy and sustainability, robotics, infrastructure and health. EngageParticipate in our dinner presentations or judge one of our competitions. Throughout the school year, the OEDK sponsors many events such as dinners, receptions and competitions.
