Wet Lab Access

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Take Rice University's Environmental Health and Safety 'General Laboratory Safety' Training.
2. Develop and submit a safety plan for your project.
   
3. Each team member must see an OEDK technician for a walk-through of the OEDK Wet Lab, preferably all at once.
   

DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Take Rice University’s Environmental Health and Safety ‘General Laboratory Safety’ Training. 

• To do this go to the EHS Bioraft site. You will need to log in with your NetID and Password.
• Each member of the team must complete this training and obtain a certificate online.

2.  Develop and submit a safety plan for your project.

• Each team is expected to seek out experts who are qualified to evaluate that the safety plan is appropriate for their specific area. For example, Dr. Ken Cox would be appropriate advisor for using chemicals and the wet lab. The team is expected to seek out their guidance. An email notification will be sent to your selected Faculty Safety Reviewer or Dr. Cox, along with the first Faculty Advisor listed for their approvals of your plan.
  
• Each team is expected to review and update their safety document as needed- at least monthly. It is to be kept in your team binder/notebook and be readily available to any faculty or technician who would like to review it with you.
• Once you have developed this safety plan, you may fill out the form HERE .

3. Once you have gained approval, each team member must see an OEDK technician for a walk-through of the OEDK Wet Lab, preferably all at      once.

• It is recommended that you schedule this walk-through in advance and preferably with all team members present. If the entire team cannot attend all at once, then separate walk-throughs can be accommodated.
• Each member of the team must complete this walk-through in order for all team members to be granted access.
