Aluminum Casting Workshop

Learn the basics of different types of casting techniques used in manufacturing while getting hands-on experience in casting metal yourself! Students will practice the “Lost Foam” method to produce their own molds around hand-carved parts, and instructors will demonstrate the pouring of molten aluminum. Everyone will walk out having learned the processes to produce a mold and will be mailed a metal-cast souvenir produced from their own mold in the week following. If students would like to make a mold of their own design, they should send an STL file to tjw5@rice[dot]edu by 11:59pm on Tuesday, April 8th.

Students should wear close-toed shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty.

Date: 4/12, 1:00-3:00 PM, OEDK

Registration opens on 4/4
