Project Title
Newborn Screening for Congenital Hypothyroidism
Design Challenge
Congenital hypothyroidism is a condition where babies are born without the ability to make thyroid hormones. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) screening measures for newborns helps ensure early treatment and prevent development impairments. However, screening devices are often inaccessible and expensive in low-resource settings. The team aims to create a low-cost, sensitive, portable, and rapid newborn screening device to flag abnormal high TSH levels which indicate the possibility of congenital hypothyroidism.
