Low Power IoT Flood Sensor Network
Design Challenge
Flooding is a significant issue that consistently affects coastal cities like Houston, and in recent years, climate change has exacerbated coastal flooding, due to rising sea-levels. By gaining understanding of how the water collects and distributes during a flood, particularly in residential urban or suburban areas, there is potential to save lives and improve cities’ resilience to flooding. As a result, our goal is to create a network of flood sensors that can gather and store quasi-real time data about the water level during flooding events. This data will permit scientists and engineers to create accurate models of flooding that can properly inform residents and city planners.
