Project Title
Sorghum Stover Supporting South Sudan
Design Challenge
To develop a fully self-sustained chemical plant in South Sudan to produce a transportation fuel and clean drinking water. The transportation fuel can be used to move cleaner energy sources and replace the use of charcoal in the region.
Design Summary
Our team has developed a fully-sustained chemical plant to produce dimethyl ether (DME) and clean drinking water from sorghum stover. DME is a cleaner fuel than diesel and can also be used in home heating and cooking similar to LPG. Our products will be used to support an agricultural region of South Sudan, Western Equatoria, that is isolated from majority of the country's natural resources.
