A Novel Off-the-shelf Fetoscope for Fetoscopic Surgery
Design Challenge
Many fetuses that would benefit from fetal surgery are either stillborn, delivered preterm, or must deal with preventable conditions. The lack of fetal surgery procedures is a result of low fetoscope availability for minimally invasive surgery in utero. Custom and off-label instruments are used, which decreases access, increases complications, and increases procedural complexity. We aim to develop a fetoscope for prenatal procedures to improve infant health.
