BEFORE YOU REGISTER

    • Verify that the following is correct, if not UPDATE before you register
    • Team Name
    • Project Title
    • Design Challenge represents your project challenge well
    • Design Summary represents your solution or approach well (students doing IP projects, be mindful of what you disclose)
    • Project Thumbnail picture or logo should represent your project well and must be square 
    • Team Member Names and Email Addresses
    • Create a ZOOM link for April 29th from 4:30-6:30pm and UPDATE your profile with the link in the field provided. PLEASE CHECK this link to confirm it is working correctly.

    • ADD a group photo of your team to your OEDK web profile’s photo album. Have fun with it!!

NEXT STEPS - AFTER YOU REGISTER

  • Create a short 2-3 minute video presentation that demonstrates your project or represents your project well.

  • VIDEO LINK MUST BE UPLOADED BY 8am Monday, April 11th in the field provided on your OEDK web profile

  • CREATE and ORGANIZE your presentation for showcase competition day.  Your presentation should be about 5-7 minutes long.  After your presentation, judges will/may ask questions for about 8-10 minutes.  The total presentation/judging time should be about 15 minutes.

  • MAKE SURE you check with your faculty member if there are other expectations or requirements for your team.  If a poster is a requirement, there will be a field on your OEDK web profile where you can add a link to your poster and/or add the poster to your team photo album on your profile.

DEADLINES and Competition Day AGENDA

  • March 1, 2022 - Registration Opens
  • April 1, 2022 - Registration Closes
  • April 9, 2022 - Video link added to profile by 8am
  • April 10, 2022 - Video gallery open and advertised to judges
  • April 21, 2022 - Engineering Design Showcase competition day
    • 4:30 pm - Judging officially begins - Each team will have a dedicated time to present LIVE to the judges via Zoom
    • 6:00 pm - Judging ends
    • 6:20 pm - Deadline for judges scores to be entered
    • 6:30 pm - Award Ceremony. 

Here are a few guidelines about the event. PLEASE READ THROUGH EVERYTHING! If you have ANY QUESTIONS or concerns at all, please notify the OEDK immediately.

VIDEO GUIDELINES

  • Maximum 3 minutes
  • May edit video but no music
  • Pitch project
  • Show demo where appropriate
  • Content is up to the team.  Try to represent your project well!!
  • Reference poster or slides if applicable
  • Can’t use a professional videographer, unless someone on your team happens to be one :D

PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

  • CREATE and ORGANIZE your presentation and prepare to present it during your ZOOM meeting time on for showcase competition day.  
  • Using slides are ideal.
  • Use a title slide that has your Team Name, Project Title, Team Member Names, Client and Sponsor (if applicable)
  • Make sure your presentation:
    • Uses informative titles and headings
    • States motivation / purpose
    • Describes methods / approach
    • Focuses on design
    • Explains how it works
    • Presents key results of testing
    • Uses coherent pattern of organization
    • Explains figures/tables and labels them appropriately
    • Defines jargon
    • Uses correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
    • Cites sources
    • Acknowledges support
  • Your presentation should be about 5-7 minutes long.  
  • After your presentation, judges will/may ask questions for about 8-10 minutes.  
  • The total presentation/judging time should be about 15 minutes.
  • Practice your presentation! Make sure you can effective present your project in 5-7 minutes. 

  • Make sure you can summarize your project’s key points and conclusions the time allotted leaving time for questions.
  • Demonstrate your project through your slides, on your Zoom or by playing a demo video. 
  • Think about which parts of your project will be the most challenging to explain.
  • Anticipate people’s questions and plan your answers to them.
  • YOU ARE THE TIME KEEPER!  Please end the presentation and thank your judges at the end of the 15 minutes, so they have enough time to get to the next team they are judging.

COMPETITION and JUDGING

  • Be prepared to present your project to the judges during your assigned presentation time via the ZOOM link you provided.
  • Attire is business casual
  • Judging will start at 4:30 pm. You will be given specific time(s) that you present closer to the event. 
  • Teams must be mindful of time and make sure to thank the judges before or at the their presentation end time.
  • Judges will judge on two criteria, Technical Merit and Presentation Clarity, scoring between a 1 (poor) and 10 (excellent). The technical merit score counts twice. Each team will be judged by 3-6 judges at the same time during their presentation timeframe. 
  • You can expect a wide variety of audience… faculty, industry partners, community members, donors etc. 
  • There will be a People's Choice Award. Encourage your friends to support your team - more info about this coming soon!
  • Plan to attend the Award Ceremony via ZOOM at 7:00pm – more information will be sent out about this in a future email.


PUBLIC Event

  • The showcase gallery is open for viewing from 4:30pm - 7:30pm.  

  • You may share your presentation zoom link with family and/or friends.  They will need to MUTE their mic and TURN OFF their video.  They may not participate during your judging timeframe.  If you would like to stay on your zoom after you presentation is over to interact with your family and/or friends.  You may do so.  But again, ONLY after you have finished with your judging timeframe and the judges have left the zoom
